Where May You Find True Happiness?

People are looking for happiness in this world. Dovid said, of all the forms of "tov—goodness" that one should pursue in his lifetime, he should pursue "kirvas Elokim—closeness to Elokim"; that’s happiness. So tov in this sense doesn’t mean virtue, righteousness. It means, ultimate happiness is to come close to Hashem.

What Does It Mean To Serve Hashem with Happiness?

“Ivdu es Hashem b’simcha — serve Hashem with Happiness” (Tehilim 100:2).

[People make] a mistake in the simple meaning. Of course you have to serve with simcha. But what does it mean with simcha? You have to serve with the simcha, with the fact that you’re happy. That’s the way to serve Hashem. When you have everything, why [don’t] you serve Hashem with that happiness and say to Him “Thank You Hashem!”

How Bad Is Gehinom?

Imagine a neshama (soul) went to the next world with stains on it. It applied to enter Gan (the Garden of) Eden. But the malach (angel) who’s standing there said, "Nothing doing! You have stains on you! First go and cleanse yourself." So the neshama had to nebach (pity!) go to Gehinom. I don’t want to describe what’s happening in Gehinom. No words we have are sufficient to describe it.

What Kindliness Is There in Gehinnom (purgatory)?

"Without the Gehinnom, this world would not be a world of Kindliness. Should the tyrant who murdered millions of innocent men be permitted to swallow a perfumed poison and escape painlessly? What Should Hard Times Remind You Of?

Why Must One Rush to Repent for Bad Deeds?

"Rabbenu Yona says in the beginning of Shaarei Teshuva, that sin is a stain on the neshama . While we are alive it’s easy to remove the stain: You do teshuva and the stain is removed. If a person who does not teshuva, he dies with a stain and goes to Gehinnom. They put detergents on him to get the stain out. And the detergents hurt... oooohhh do they hurt! They burn! So the neshama is somewhat scarred from its experience in Gehinom. Therefore we shouldn’t wait until Gehinom in order to get rid of the stain. Do teshuva while you’re still alive.

How Do You Keep Your Mind Clean and Pure?
